======================================= W i n d o w s 9 x C r e a t e a N e w T o o l b a r ======================================= Create a new toolbar to give quick and convenient access to frequently used shortcuts. I use this method to add a permanent (always on-top) toolbar of shortcuts to my most frequently used applications on the right-hand side of my screen. Here are some suggestions: My Computer Toolbar: 1. Right-click on an empty space on your Taskbar. 2. When the browser appears, select My Computer and click OK. A toolbar appears with the contents of My Computer on it. 3. Now use the handle on the left of the toolbar to shorten it by dragging it to the right. All that is left is the name "My Computer" and a double arrow. Click on the arrow for access to your entire PC. Control Panel Toolbar (Floating): 1. Create a new toolbar again (see above) but this time open up "My Computer" and select Control Panel before clicking on OK. 2. Click on the name "Control Panel" and then drag the toolbar on to your desktop where it'll sit floating on your desktop waiting to be used. Right-hand toolbar: 1. Now drag the toolbar to the right- hand edge of the screen where it magically attaches itself to the side. 2. It looks a little unwieldly, so let's remove the title bar and the text from under the icons. 3. Right-click on the toolbar and untick the "Show Text" and "Show Title" options. 4. Finally, to hide the toolbar when it's not in use, tick the option marked "Auto-Hide". You are not restricted to standard folders why not create your own folder of shortcuts and attach it to the side of the screen, with the "Always on top" option ticked. == Source PC Format November 2000 p.125
